The smallest stage
The recent pandemic was enough to stop even New Yorkers in their tracks. My colleagues and I found ourselves further trapped in little windows on large Zoom calls.
Looking to have a little fun in our new reality, I decided to pay homage to classic movies and tv shows, using only the possessions in my apartment. I started with Photoshopped backgrounds, then added lighting and camera angles fitting to each scene. With the support and encouragement of my leaders and teammates, I quickly became a fixture in our 100+ people weekly meetings, bringing some levity to an otherwise unfortunate situation.
Isolation inspired me to delve into movies, new and old, then share those with others week to week. Being the first to guess my portrayals then became the way to open our online gatherings. This led to great conversations with coworkers I’d previously known and those I’d never met from offices around the country, a great bonding moment to bring the team closer together.
